An AI Podcast Journey (Part 2)<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

In the previous instalment, we introduced the concept and goals of developing a viable, scalable AI production pipeline for animation and video. In this article, we cover the preproduction<\/strong> phase, focusing on:<\/span><\/p>

  1. Story<\/span><\/li>
  2. Character Design<\/span><\/li>
  3. Voice Over (V.O.)<\/span><\/li>
  4. Rough Edit<\/span><\/li><\/ol>

    We\u2019ll look at where AI really helped lighten the workload\u2014and where it just didn\u2019t cut it. (Not \u201cuseless\u201d as in broken\u2014just not particularly useful for the specific task at hand.)<\/span><\/p>

    In the final instalment, we\u2019ll dig into animation, editing, branding,<\/strong> and publishing<\/strong> the first episode.<\/span><\/p>

    1. STORY<\/span><\/h3>

    I initially tried to salvage a script that ChatGPT generated, but it ended up too scattered to be useful\u2014and I had no clear idea how long the episode would run once all the action was packed in.<\/span><\/p>

    To keep things within our 2-minute format, I rewrote the script as pure dialogue: two A4 pages, double spaced. No descriptions, just character lines.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

    \ud83d\udc49 Notebook LM<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

    Before I begin writing, I like to get a different perspective on the concept. For that, I used Google\u2019s Notebook LM<\/a>\u2014a seriously underrated tool.<\/span><\/p>

    Notebook LM can import PDFs, URLs, YouTube videos, and more\u2014then summarise them from any point of view you request. One feature I really like is its podcast-style discussion<\/strong> tool, where two AI characters “talk” about your topic.<\/span><\/p>

    The output helped spark new ideas, highlighted flaws, and surfaced themes I might have missed. You can resubmit the same material and it\u2019ll generate a totally different take. There’s even an interactive mode where you can ask questions or add information, and the AI voices respond in real-time. (It\u2019s honestly a little creepy.)<\/span><\/p>

    \ud83d\udc49 Script<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

    I considered writing the script in proper industry format using Final Draft, but since we were only using it for voice generation, I stuck with basic dialogue. The AI voice generator only needs the lines\u2014everything else would\u2019ve been deleted anyway.<\/span><\/p>

    Here\u2019s a link to the dialogue script.<\/a> <\/span>As you\u2019ll see, it\u2019s sort of<\/em> industry standard: courier font, 12pt, double spaced, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

    2. CHARACTER DESIGN<\/span><\/h3>

    \"Ideogram\"<\/span><\/p>

    There are tons of AI image generators out there\u2014some surprisingly good and free\u2014including Microsoft Designer, ChatGPT, Leonardo, and Ideogram.<\/span><\/p>

    ChatGPT created our first version of the characters, Dex and Edna. (It mistakenly named Edna as Olga, but hey\u2014easy fix.) With most generators, you describe what you want, and the AI offers several options. You can pick one or continue tweaking until you\u2019re happy.<\/span><\/p>

    \"\"<\/span><\/p>

    We found Leonardo<\/strong> especially good at producing rich detail. But we went with Ideogram<\/strong> in the end because it gave us characters with subtle touches we loved\u2014like the natural-looking glare off Edna\u2019s glasses.<\/span><\/p>

    3. VOICE OVER<\/span><\/h3>

    \"11Labs\"<\/span><\/p>

    For this project, we used 11 Labs\u2014our go-to for AI voice. It\u2019s reliable and delivers decent results.<\/span><\/p>

    One important thing we learned: you have to add space between each character\u2019s dialogue. Otherwise, the AI just ploughs from one line into the next, making the delivery sound weird and unnatural.<\/span><\/p>

    As far as I know, 11 Labs doesn\u2019t yet distinguish between different characters in the same script, so each line has to be separated and processed carefully.<\/span><\/p>

    What is<\/em> amazing is their voice manipulation tech:<\/span><\/p>

    • Speech-to-text<\/span><\/li>
    • Text-to-sound<\/span><\/li>
    • Voice cloning<\/span><\/li>
    • Real-time dubbing<\/span><\/li>
    • Modifying recorded human voices<\/span><\/li><\/ul>

      That last one is a game-changer. Instead of trying to wring emotion from a text-to-voice tool, you can just record a human actor delivering the line with proper performance\u2014then use AI to change the voice\u2019s gender, tone, or accent.<\/span><\/p>

      4. ROUGH EDIT \/ ASSEMBLY<\/span><\/h3>

      We chose to do the edit manually in Adobe Premiere<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

      While Adobe has been loading up with AI features lately, the one we found most useful was its auto-captioning tool<\/strong>. It\u2019s not perfect\u2014accents can throw it off\u2014but it saves a ton of time. If you\u2019re curious, there are loads of great YouTube tutorials on how to create stylized captions.<\/span><\/p>

      We followed a tutorial on how to create Hormozi-style captions<\/strong>\u2014and it worked great.<\/span><\/p>

      There are also dedicated AI editing platforms like AIVideo.com, Filmora, Opus Clip, and Firecut. But as longtime Premiere users (and proud control freaks), we opted to go manual to retain full creative control.<\/span><\/p>

      CONCLUSION: AI\u2019s Report Card (So Far)<\/span><\/h2>

      As we explore different AI-based production pipelines, the goal is to understand where the time and creative savings are\u2014and where the tech still needs training wheels.<\/span><\/p>

      Here\u2019s our take on each stage:<\/span><\/p>

      AI was decent at idea generation and showing different perspectives. But subtle humour, cultural insight, and tight structure still needed a human touch.<\/span>

      AI absolutely crushed it. Realistic, creative, distinctive character designs with minimal prompting.<\/span>

      \ud83d\udfe1 3. VOICE OVER<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>

      It\u2019s a mixed bag. AI voices still fall short of human emotion, but the ability to clone or modify human recordings makes up for it.<\/span>

      While AI editors are catching up, we stuck with Premiere. That said, Adobe\u2019s captioning tool is a legit timesaver.<\/span>
